Darren founded his own Health and Safety Consultancy (Wessex Health and Safety) in 2005 along with FSP.

Throughout his career, he has been the fire safety lead on projects in the following industries: Healthcare, Gas & Oil, Upper Tier COMAH sites, Nuclear, Historic Buildings, Construction, Education, Manufacturing and Marine.

Darren is a highly respected figure in the Healthcare industry providing Authorising Engineer (Fire) to multiple NHS Trusts’.

He has produced practical, innovative solutions to deliver safe, sustainable results. These projects have included; Covid-19 Nightingale Hospitals, National Covid-19 test laboratory, Oriel Project (London), Rolls Royce Nuclear, Corrib Gas Project, Ballanaboy, Drogheda Port and Thames Oil Port.

Darren
Founding Director

Our founding Director is a highly respected figure in the healthcare sector for providing fire engineering advice and solutions across a range of acute, community and primary care settings. Darren provides Authorising Engineer (Fire) for multiple NHS Trusts’ nationally, working on varying projects including new build hospitals and most recently; Nightingale hospitals, National Laboratory testing centres and mass vaccination centres, following the recent Covid 19 pandemic.

He regularly chairs Qualitative Design Reviews, HAZOPs and FMEAs providing NHS Trusts’ with fire safety assurance. Darren has designed fire strategies using a wide range of local, national and international codes and standards providing fire engineered solutions. Previously he held positions at international engineering companies working on both national and international projects, including Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Airports and Rail. He is a chartered member of IOSH and full member of IFE, IHEEM and APS.

A particular area of interest is quality governance of fire safety/engineering in the design of hospitals.

Neill
Fire Safety Consultant

With over 20 years’ experience in fire safety which includes working as Fire Safety Advisor for a large acute NHS Trust.

Previous roles have included experience within the Oil and Gas Industry, COMAH Sites, DSEAR/Anaerobic Digestate, and Civil Construction (Major Infrastructure Projects). Neill provides third party accredited fire safety training to the public and private sectors both on a national and international basis. He is a member of the FPA and IIAI.

A particular area of interest is fire risk assessments within the complex hospitals.

Gwen
Fire Engineer

With 16 years fire engineering experience including positions at Jacobs and London Fire Brigade (Fire Safety Department). Holds a Masters degree in Fire Engineering (Hons) and Member level at Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). Throughout her career she has been involved the following fire safety projects, High-rise residential, Retail, Offices, Commercial, Hospitals, Nuclear, Aviation, Industrial, Pharmaceutical and Mining, more recently undertaking reviews of non-combustible facades and EWS1 forms, and smoke control in extended corridors.

Projects completed both nationally and internationally.

Kate
Fire Safety Consultant

With five years’ experience within Healthcare and commercial sector fire safety, previous projects have included providing fire safety advice to NHS Trusts and commercial businesses, passive fire surveys, fire safety management audits and fire risk assessments. She has been instrumental providing advice for setting up digital monitoring systems for fire safety compliance for a national organisation as well as developing emergency evacuation strategies for complex buildings.

Projects completed nationally.

Paul
Fire Safety Consultant

With over 20 years’ fire safety experience including Enforcing Officer role with the Fire and Rescue Service, he also has in-depth knowledge of large scale manufacturing fire safety. Paul undertakes fire risk assessments and fire safety training within commercial settings ranging from food, engineering, and manufacturing sectors.

Membership is held with IOSH.

Sophie
Administrator

Joined the team in June 2014 as office administrator. She directly handles financial matters such as client billing, accounts payable, payroll and banking. She oversees the day to day running of the company and supports the team with administrative tasks.
