The QDR is a qualitative process that draws upon the experience and knowledge of the fire safety engineer and a team of others involved in the design and operation of the building. This process can be used to establish practical and common sense technique outlined in BS 7974 0, that allows the design team with input from clinical staff and others to think of the possible ways in which a fire hazard might arise and establish a range of strategies to mitigate or maintain the risk at an acceptable level.

FSP have been involved and run numerous QDR’s in varying sectors which include, healthcare, nuclear, gas and oil and manufacturing. The QDR process has been used successfully where prescriptive methods of design are not achievable for varying reasons.
