Authorising Engineer (Fire) – the AE Fire provides independent fire consultancy/advisory services to healthcare organisations. We can assist with monitoring of the organisations fire safety management performance through audit and reports to the executive board. Additionally, where specialist solutions are required to resolve fire safety challenges within the healthcare environment, the Fire Safety Adviser can seek specialist advice from an Authorising Engineer (Fire).
As AE Fire we have been involved in various acute, mental health and community led healthcare projects over the years including, new hospital design, refurbishment of existing buildings, upgrading of hospital premises and conversion of buildings for the use as Nightingale Hospitals. We have also been involved as the Trust AE Fire on Lighthouse test laboratories and vaccination centres.
Hospitals are not like other facilities, and therefore require a specific specialist emergency evacuation strategy and procedures. In inpatient building it is common to employee a Progressive Horizontal Evacuation (PHE) policy. Supporting hospital patients, who can range from ambulant the very high dependent, in evacuation procedures requires detailed and careful preparation, these preparations need to be applied during planning through to implementation and testing. The variety of different special needs of hospital patients must be considered and planned for in every step as some individuals may require personalised emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs).
Evacuation of Healthcare buildings is significantly more complex than many buildings, we have assisted NHS Trusts to develop and review their evacuation strategies and procedures making sure they are efficient.
